Clearwater Custom Bullets makes both bonded and non-bonded
core bullets. The bonded core provides higher retained weight,
often 100%, because the pure lead core is diffusion bonded
(not glued or soldered) to the jacket so it can't separate,
even if the bullet is turned completely inside out!
Bonded core bullets take extra time to make, but are worth
their slight extra cost for hunting and metallic silhouette
shooting (longer time on target, more energy transfer for
more positive knock-downs). For plinking, varmint shooting,
or paper target shooting, there is less need for a bonded
core. Bonding does keep the core from ever slipping within
the jacket, a rare but possible bullet error with non-bonded
bullets used with very high acceleration loading. Bonded
cores can be more accurate in those loads. The lower cost
of non-bonded bullets makes them attractive for situations
where bonding offers no advantage.
You can order custom bullet weights for any Clearwater bullet.
And, you can request the cannelure groove to be placed at
any specified distance above the base of the bullet (as
long as it is still on the parallel or shank portion). Just
let us know the caliber (50 or 45), the desired weight in
grains, and the distance from the base to the start of the
groove. If you don't want a cannelure, that's fine, too.
Just let us know.
Clearwater Custom Bullets brings the power of a design lab
to your loading bench without the need for high investment:
the CCB Experimenter's Kit is a new way to try your ideas
and find the best weight and style, without having to purchase
huge numbers of bullets.
The Experimenter's Kit is a box of 25 bullets, in groups
of 5 identical types, which can contain 5 different weights
in the same style, 5 different styles in the same weight,
or any combination of features in sets of just 5 bullets.
This gives you the ability to do 5-shot group tests, or
5-shot penetration/expansion testing, and find out exactly
what weight, style, and design of bullet is best for your
load and gun! This is the kind of capability only bullet
design labs and factory R&D departments normally enjoy.
CCB offers super-light weight, low recoil, high speed bullets
for the 50 and 45 caliber revolvers and autoloaders. The
accuracy is maintained by using a normal bullet airframe
length, and a core that is partly lead and partly polymer,
so that the center of balance can be shifted slightly forward
to maintain stability even with extreme light weight bullets
for the caliber. If you've ever wanted to try a 150 grain
45 ACP or 454 Casull, or a 275 grain 50 S&W, now you can!
